Ulster Rugby stars of the future from Sullivan in Hollywood stole the show at the finals of Ulster’s premiere primary schools’ mini rugby tournament at Ravenhill, to lift the prestigious IRFU (Ulster Branch) Primary Schools’ Mini Rugby Cup 2008.

Supported by education ICT specialist, Northgate Information Solutions, for a third consecutive year, the IRFU (Ulster Branch) Primary Schools’ Mini Rugby tournament encourages primary school children from all over Ulster to become more active and to develop their skills through mini rugby.

To reach the finals over 1,000 children from primary schools across Northern Ireland took part in 8 qualifying tournaments, with 34 teams progressing to Ravenhill to battle it out for the 2008 IRFU (Ulster Branch) Primary Schools’ Mini Rugby title.   Sullivan fought off stiff competition from Inchmarlo to take home the coveted rugby title in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Commenting on the tournament, Simon Wallace, Commercial Manager with Ulster Rugby said, “Mini rugby is an exciting way for kids to play and enjoy rugby.  The tournament has proved to be a hugely successful feature of the primary schools’ mini rugby calendar, and continues to play an important role in nurturing young sporting talent in Ulster.  The added element of competing on the historic Ravenhill pitch is something that the kids are sure to remember long after the final whistle.”

Stuart Gunning from Northgate Education added “We are delighted to continue our support for this excellent tournament for a third consecutive year.  The standard of play was incredibly high and the children, their parents and teachers are to be congratulated on making this year’s event a huge success.”
