Stoke Damerel College in Plymouth Enjoys Free Visit to At-Bristol Exhibition Courtesy of Northgate

More Schools Invited to take part in 2008
Northgate Managed Services has taken 50 students from Stoke Damerel College in Plymouth to the ‘At-Bristol’ science exhibition in Bristol, to enjoy a day out at the UK’s leading hands-on science centre. The trip is the latest in a series of visits that have been provided through Northgate’s support of the At-Bristol bursary scheme. With the affiliation continuing through 2008 it is now time for teachers to decide if they want their students to benefit from a free, educational day trip, by contacting At-Bristol’s School Liaison Officer on 0117 909 2000. Northgate is aleading UK provider of ICT managed services and solutions in education.
The bursary is designed to provide schools and other organisations from lower-income areas of Bristol and the South West with the opportunity to explore and participate in the science centre’s educational activities and programmes without paying for entry tickets. To date, Northgate has helped to provide 13 schools and community groups with a bursary visit and as a result more than 500 individuals, including many school children from less affluent areas in Bristol, have visited the exhibition.
The programme not only provides children, young people and adults from across the region free entry to At-Bristol, but also subsidised transport if necessary. Attending students can enjoy attractions including ‘Your Amazing Brain’ which delves into how our senses affect perceptions and feelings, and the ‘Curiosity Zone’ which creates wonder about the phenomena in the everyday world.
Laura Aldridge, attending teacher from Stoke Damerel College, said: “This was a great day for our students – it allowed them to fuel their interest of science by seeing how it impacts on everyday situations. I would thoroughly recommend other schools and colleges to get in touch with At-Bristol about bursary opportunities.”

Northgate Managed Services will be providing Information and Communication Technology managed services to Bristol City Council as part of the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme.
