Strandtown Primary School Excel in Ulster Mini Rugby Championships

01 June 2007

Mini Simon Best and Paddy Wallace wannabes from Strandtown Primaryschool in Belfast proved they have a great sporting future ahead of them after competing in the finals of the Ulster Mini Rugby Championships at Ravenhill this month.

Supported by education ICT specialists, Northgate Information Solutions for the second year, this IRFU tournament is helping to spot the rugby stars of the future as the pupils are encouraged to put their sporting abilities to the test on the eight-a-side mini pitch.

Over 1000 children from throughout the province participated in the qualifying stages of the event, with 34 finals battling it out for the title of 2007 Ulster Mini Rugby Champions. Strandtown fought off stiff competition from Inchmarlo Primary School to take home the title for the second consecutive year.

Stuart Gunning, Education Client Director from Northgate said:  “Each team put their heart and soul into their performance, displaying great skill, determination and spirit. Northgate commends both the pupils and their teachers for their efforts and we congratulate all involved in making this such a worthwhile event."
